The Digital Rubicon / Rev. Dr. Oliver Subotic

- It is certain that in this day and age, with the rapid development of artificial intelligence, the technological Rubicon has certainly been crossed. At the same time, modern Man, for the most part, does not seem to possess the determination that Gaius Julius Caesar had: to decisively overcome the obstacles he is up against. We cannot say with certainty what obstacles we may encounter on the crossing of the digital Rubicon - are we headed towards a society of material prosperity, scientific and educational development and general wellbeing or shall we have a society of total control, enor- mous safety existential risks, the annihilation of human creativity and interpersonal relationships. Uncertainty beckons.

As someone with an IT engineering degree, a master's degree in theology, and a PhD degree in sociology, Dr Subotic is uniquely qualified to talk about the relationship between the humanity and artificial intelligence, and to caution us of the risks these new tech- nologies bring.
